Katherine Heigl admits that she was brought up in a white bubble, and how that influenced the way she cared for her adoptive, multiracial children. In an interview with actress Katherine Heigl, who plays "Firefly Lane", as well as "Grey's Anatomy", actress revealed her body didn't matter to her. But after speaking to her adopted sister from South Korea about how society treated them, she became conscious of the differences their lives were. Meg was asked whether she was treated differently when they were out together with their parents, and the time they were on their own. Meg replied, "Oh, yes, every all the time! It made me realize I was so ignorant," Heigl said to Parents. Heigl said she got angry and felt that she needed to channel the anger she felt on her adopted daughters. Heigl shares a son of four years with Josh Kelley, her husband for the past 13 years. In 2009, they adopted Nancy Leigh (12), an adopted daughter from South Korea, and Adalaide (8 the black child) in 2012.
